[Car hire] Important Tips for Wonderful Holidays with Rental Car
In case of high temperatures, do not abuse the air-conditioner in the car. Adjust it to a temperature lower by a maximum of 4 to 5 °C in accordance to the outside degrees. Otherwise, you will risk to be sick with the difference of hot and cold environment (cold, earache, headache, sore throat = “ruined holiday”). Therefore, prepare a sunshade and keep a bottle of water in the car.
Always keep the doors locked and store the luggage in your trunk. Before setting out, search for some information about the traffic condition, roads network and the weather at the destination.
If you intend to travel to other countries outside Europe, an International Driving Permit (in 9 languages, valid for 1 year) is required. The permit is issued by the local police stations. You could apply for it with a presentation of your domestic driving license. If you travel abroad with your own car, the insurance needs to typically cover no less than 90 days. There may be some exceptional countries. Before setting out, please make sure that your car insurance is valid in your destination country. Generally speaking, the police does not have that humor and tolerance in every country in the world.
In winter, in the mountains, equip your car with tire chains in case of snow during the trip, avoid driving in the nights.
To drive with relax, drink some water to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks (stop every 2 hours).
